Christmas 2007 Revisited
Its hard to believe that at this time last year Liam had just learned to sit up and had gotten his first tooth!

Eagle-Eye
I am constantly amazed by how much Liam pays attention to his environment. I've started calling him 'eagle-eye' because he can spot a truck ('uff'), bus ('bu'), or animal (preferably a dog) from at least 4 miles! He is contantly pointing things out from the car including billboards on the highway. His current favorite has a duck with a hat. He points and yells "du! du!" and then pats his head yelling "at! at!"
Liam also is recognizing characters and people much more easily. He can pick Elmo and Santa out of a crowd! Its really amazing to me because we haven't spent much time talking about or seeing either. He spots Santa dolls in store windows and Elmo on cereal boxes in the grocery store!

Sweet Boy
Last week we had several of Geoff's coworkers and their families over for dinner. The group included a little girl a few months younger than Liam. At one point, she fell and began to cry. Liam came over to me and pointed to her saying "bay-bee?" I said that she was sad and asked if he thought a toy would make her feel better. With that, he picked up a little stuffed rabbit and walked over and handed it to her. I thought that was wonderful!
First Snow
A few weeks ago we had our first snow. This was Liam's first snow being mobile so we all bundled up and headed outside. Liam's first step out of the house landed him in about 1in of snow. Much to his dismay, the snow stuck to his shoes. He kept pointing to his shoes, lifting his foot out of the snow, saying "ish" (shoe) and "nooow" (snow). He seemed pretty disturbed by it all until I pointed out that the snow stuck to my shoes too.
He took his first sled ride with Dad (see previous post) which we think he enjoyed. He did great outside until he fell in the snow with no mittens on - then he screamed like a banshee! He really hates wearing mittens. When he has them on he holds up his hands a complains (yells) until we take them off or he figures out how to get them off himself. I hope we can avoid frostbitten fingers this winter!

A few stories...
Every day, Liam does something to amuse and sometimes baffle us. Over the week of Thanksgiving, he figured out that he can give directions and people will do what he tells them. He spent a good part of the holiday weekend telling his Uncle Duh (Dan) to "Go!" so he could chase him around the house. He's also taken to grabbing my hands to steer me to where he would like to go, that includes pulling me to the floor to sit and play.
Liam has also started giving big hugs. I mean BIG hugs. He just grabs on tight and squeezes! I love it!
A few weeks ago Liam was banging his cup on the table. I put my hand on it and said "please don't Liam, it hurts mommy's ears." He put his cup down, put his finger to his lips and went "sshhhhh." I checked with Geoff and I don't do much shushing so I'm guessing its a technique he's picked up at school.
This past week, both Liam and Geoff have been under the weather. During this time, Liam has started to grab his own tissues, 'blow' his nose, and then throw the tissue away. You can see a short video by clicking here. This appears to be a great skill until I discovered if he couldn't reach the tissue box he was grabbing used tissues out of the trash! Yuck!
Liam has gotten more interested in music lately. He has always loved to dance (see multiple previous posts) but is now seeking out music. When we get in the car he points to the car radio, grunts, and does a little car seat dance to get us to turn on some tunes. He'll bounce from side to side and wave his arms, even bob his head. He doesn't like to dance alone. He insists that Dad dance too. He points to him, says Dada, and then illustrates a little dance he would like repeated. He will even let us know if he's not a fan of the current song (no to Green Day, yes to Beastie Boys, at least this week).
