"Good night Bubs"

Liam and Geoff's bedtime wishes to each other.

Untrue...really!

The other day Liam and I were playing when we abruptly got up and said, "Time out Mommy." He then took my hand and led me to the stairs and made me sit down. I asked, "why am I in time out Liam?" Liam's reply, "you hit Liam."

Yikes!!! Surely you know I never hit my child although my fear is he'll say this out in public somewhere or to his teachers at school! I then said to Liam, "No, Liam, Mommy doesn't hit you." He took that as an affirmation that I understood I wasn't supposed to hit not that I never did it. "Mommy, no hit, time out."

He then went around the corner and counted to 10 (which I do for timeout although he covered his eyes - a carryover from Hide & Seek). He then came back in the room and said, "get up Mommy, hug now." All was forgiven.

Liam's take on the world

As I've mentioned before, I'm always surprised by how Liam thinks the world works. Like - clothes get clean when they go down the laundry chute.

His innocence helps me see the world differently. On our drive to school, through downtown, we usually pass the same homeless man panhandling on the same corner. This morning, as we passed him, Liam said, "There's that man, Mommy. He's having picnic."

I wish I could save him from knowing how tough the world can be but on the other hand, I'd like him to be grateful for all our blessings and opportunities. I hope I can find the right words to explain the world to him when the time comes.

Something's missing...

Liam's been really interested in learning his letters and numbers lately. Every time he sees a letter, he asks what it is. He's able to identify several letters now:

L for Liam
D for Daddy and Uncle Dan
M for Mommy and Mimi
P for Papa

He's still working on counting. Right now his counting goes like this: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 , 9, 10. And if he has more than those, he just repeats 6, 7, and 8. He recently started saying 11 and sort of 12. I'm not sure why 2 and 3 don't make the list.

OK Mommy?

Yesterday, Liam and I had been sitting on the couch when he got up and went into the kitchen. As I stood up, I said "ouch" (sore from the rare visit to the gym). Liam ran back in the room and here's what happened:

Liam: "You, OK Mommy?"
Me: "Yes, honey, I'm OK. Thank you"
Liam (noticing his shoes on the floor by my feet): "Step on my shoes, Mommy?"
Me: "No, baby, I didn't trip on your shoes."
Liam: "You, OK Mommy?"
Me: "Yes Liam, thanks for checking on me."
Liam: "OK Mommy"

So sweet.
