Time for Plan B

Monday night, after we finished eating dinner, Liam decided he was all done and stood up in his high chair! We quickly reminded him that it was dangerous to do that and that he should sit on his bottom. He sat back down saying "da-ger, da-ger." He stood up a second time. We told him if he did it again he would have to go to time out (a new but seldom used tactic in our house). He sat back down and said "all done, dow." We set him on the floor and he walked out of the kitchen saying "imout." We didn't really understand what he was saying so Geoff followed him. Liam sat himself on the stairs (the timeout spot) and repeatedly said "imout, imout" with a smile and a giggle. When your child voluntarily goes to timeout its probably not an effective disciplinary technique!

Civilizing the Toddler

Liam and I have been having a lot of conversations about how we treat other people. We're working on listening (especially to Mom) and doing what we're asked. Liam's definately in that phase of toddlerhood where pushing and hitting are the top negotiation tools so we've also been talking a lot about nice vs. not nice. One of the ways we've been talking about it is when we read books. My favorite example is out of a book about a gorilla who pulls a lion's tail. Everytime Liam sees the picture he asks "nice?"

Well, tonight, all this discussion was put into action. I was getting Liam ready for a bath and Geoff came into the room, grabbed him and starting tickling his tummy. Liam started yelling "no, no, not nice, not nice!" Hilarious!
