Baby Deer

A few weeks ago, a fawn and its mother appeared in our neighborhood. They seem to have taken up residence in the little wooded area a few houses down from us. The doe deposits the fawn in various hiding places around the neighborhood during the day while she forages for food. The fawn is only a few weeks old, still has lots of spots. Last week the doe left the fawn in the ground cover next to our neighbor's house. Our neighbor called and invited Liam and I over to see the baby. Liam was facinated. As soon as Geoff came home, Liam told him all about it: "Daddy...baby deer...sleeping...(with fingertip to nose) shhhh." Today, the fawn was hidden behind a shrub against our house. She was there all afternoon so we had to go our and check on her occassionally. Liam described her as: "Baby deer...hiding...scared...mommy come, night-night."
